EMEA
The European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal
Products (EMEA) was established by Council Regulation (EEC) No 2309/93
of 22 July 1993 (OJ L 214 of 24.8.1993). Its main responsibility
is the protection of public and animal health. The EMEA works as
a network,
bringing together the scientific resources of the EU and EEA-EFTA
Member States to ensure the highest level of evaluation and supervision
of medicines in Europe. The Agency cooperates closely with international
partners, reinforcing the EU contribution to global harmonisation.
EFSA
The European Food Safety Authority was established by
Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council
of 28 January
2002 (OJ L 31, 1.2.2002, p. 1). Working closely with national
authorities and stakeholders, EFSA is the
keystone
of the European food
safety network. The Authority is committed to providing scientific advice
of the highest possible quality and clear communication of existing and
emerging risk.
EEA
The European Environment Agency (EEA) was established
by Council Regulation (EEC) No 1210/90 of 7 May 1990 (OJ L 120 of 11.5.1990)
amended by Council Regulation (EC) No 933/1999 of 29 April 1999 (OJ L
117 of 5.5.1999).
It started its activities during 1995.
Its mission is to collect and disseminate timely, targeted, relevant and reliable
information on the state and trends of the environment at European level.
Community Plant Variety Rights Office
The Community Plant Variety Office was established by Council
Regulation (EC) No 2100/94 of 27 July 1994 (OJ L 227, 1.9.1994), amended by Regulation
(EC) No 2506/95 (OJ L 258, 28.10.1995). Since 1996 the CPVO has administered
a system of Community plant variety rights, a specific form of industrial property
rights relating to new plant varieties.
The CPVO grants rights ensuring industrial property protection for eligible new
varieties. These rights are valid for a duration of either 25 or 30 years.
